Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil and gas regulator says it has dropped charges against Suncor Energy Inc. laid for alleged violations related to the injury of a worker on the company’s Terra Nova offshore platform.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board says the charges relate to the December 29, 2019, injury to a worker who fell from a ladder while conducting gas tests.
The board alleges that Suncor failed to ensure that all workers had a properly attached safety harness, failed to ensure that all employees followed protective equipment rules and failed to provide a compliance report.

It says the first appearance on the matter is scheduled for January 25, 2023 at the provincial court in St. John’s.
Suncor is already under intense scrutiny for its safety record after at least 12 workers died at its oil sands operations in northern Alberta since 2014.
Former CEO Mark Little promised earlier this year to address the problem, including with an independent safety review, but he resigned from the company a day after another Suncor contract worker died in July.
