    One killed, Deerfoot Trail closed after head-on collision

    A head-on collision Friday morning on Deerfoot Trail left one person dead and a stretch of Deerfoot Trail closed while police investigate.

    According to Calgary police, the crash happened around 3:15 a.m. near the 32nd Avenue NE exit. Police said a truck was heading north in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail when it collided with a car near the exit.

    The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The person driving the truck is currently in custody, police said, but added that no charges have yet been laid.

    All lanes of southbound and northbound Deerfoot Trail are currently closed between 32nd Avenue NE and 16th Avenue NE as we work to investigate a fatal collision.

    All lanes of Deerfoot Trail in both directions were closed for several hours between 32nd Avenue NE and 16th Avenue NE while police worked to investigate the collision.

    The city’s Department of Transportation said on social media that northbound lanes reopened around 7 a.m., and police added that southbound lanes were expected to remain closed for most of Friday morning.
