It’s impossible to miss the signs that the holiday season is right around the corner. Christmas ads, commercials and decorations are to be seen at every turn. In the 1920s, however, the Calgary Herald gave readers a little extra help. On the front page of the paper, the Herald provided a different, small seasonal illustration each day, along with a countdown calendar. The artwork also served as a reminder for readers to check the holiday ads in the paper. Here are examples of that artwork published on the front page of the newspaper in November and December 1929.
