City police say they have shut the door on a fraudster’s scheme to lure customers while claiming he would build them garages.

One man was arrested after police received complaints about a contractor who offered to build detached garages in the Livingston and Skyview areas of the city last March, but then failed to do any work.

“After signing contracts and receiving nearly $30,000 in advance from the victims, allegedly to purchase materials, the man failed to complete the work,” police said in a press release.

“It is believed the man used an alias and claimed to be the owner of a business called Custom Renos by Us.”

When confronted by disgruntled customers demanding a refund, the man provided them with false documents indicating reimbursement and then stopped communicating with his victims, police said.

Emmanuel Reyes Montalvo, 41, is charged with four counts of forgery, three counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count of fraud under $5,000.
