A 25-year-old Calgary man has been charged with attempting to smuggle cocaine into Canada from the United States.
The Integrated Border Enforcement Teams, made up of RCMP, Calgary police and border services agents, seized 53 kilograms of cocaine at the Coutts border crossing on Nov. 21, a news release said Tuesday.
IBET said the drugs, which have a street value of approximately $5.3 million, were found in a shipment of products. The cargo has since been referred to the integrated police force for further investigation.
“By stopping illegal drugs at the border, we keep our communities safe. This seizure is another great example of the continued collaboration between the CBSA, the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service to secure our borders,” said CBSA Regional Director General Brad Wozny.
