The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame has welcomed some new members to its ranks who may sound familiar to Global News radio listeners.
Mark Stephen, the voice of the Calgary Stampeders and color commentator Greg Peterson, both of whom can be heard regularly on 770 CHQR during the football season, were inducted into the Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
“An incredible honor as many worthy people are headed to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame,” Stephen tweeted Tuesday.

Stephen received the Bell Memorial Award.
Stephen’s voice is known to many as one of the voices of the Calgary Stampeders where he worked with Peterson, his fellow 2023 inductee. The pair served the longest broadcasting tandem in CFL history. Stephen also worked as a national broadcaster for four Gray Cup games, along with many other sporting achievements.
Peterson was inducted as a football builder. Peterson was born and raised in Calgary and was a CFL All Canadian All Star in 1990. Two years later, he was a Gray Cup champion. After his retirement, he coached and managed amateur football in the city for over 30 years, while serving with Stephen as a color commentator and analyst on Calgary Stampeder radio.
Thanks to a partnership with Corus Entertainment and the Calgary Stampeders, Stephen and Peterson can be heard providing exclusive game commentary throughout the football season on 770 CHQR.
