Two residents and an inmate are dealing with fees after allegedly utilizing drones to ship medication to an Alberta jail.
The Drumheller RCMP say a drug trafficking investigation started in Might 2023 when police seized a number of drones and a considerable amount of illicit medication.
“The investigation continued and RCMP recognized a suspect and a suspect inmate who had been facilitating the introduction of medicine and telephones into the Drumheller Establishment by way of illicit drone flights,” reads a police launch.
Officers executed a search warrant on Mar. 15 at a house in Eckville, Alta. and located cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, together with money, unlawful weapons and two drones.
Eckville resident Ashley Maki, 39, and John Andrews, 32, an inmate from Drumheller Establishment have been charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and possession of proceeds of crime.
RCMP have issued a warrant for the arrest of 19-year-old Eckville resident Dayton Chassie. Chassie, together with Maki, is dealing with further fees for drug possession and prohibited weapons.
Maki was launched on an enterprise and is scheduled to seem in a Crimson Deer courtroom in June. Andrews stays in Drumheller Establishment and is awaiting a courtroom date.
“This was a prolonged and meticulous investigation ensuing within the elimination of illicit and dangerous medication and weapons from our communities,” says Employees Sgt. Robert Harms in a press release.
