An investigation is underway after an RCMP officer exchanged gunfire with a suspect in Canmore Friday evening.
A Banff RCMP officer was conducting a site visitors cease in Canmore round 11:15 p.m. when “the lone occupant of a car and the officer exchanged gunfire,” a police information launch mentioned Saturday.
The motive force took off in his car after which fled on foot right into a wooded space.
RCMP police canine providers, emergency response workforce and a Calgary Police Service helicopter went to the wooded space to search out the suspect.
After finding the 26-year-old man, STARS Ambulance took him to a Calgary hospital with critical accidents.
No officers had been injured.
The Alberta Severe Incident Response Staff, a police watchdog, took over the investigation.
