Households Minister Jenna Sudds says provinces and territories signed $10-a-day baby care agreements with the federal authorities with their “eyes extensive open,” and Ottawa now expects them to make this system work.
The minister’s feedback come as some child-care operators in Ontario and Alberta are warning they could withdraw from this system, and even be pressured to shut altogether, in the event that they don’t get extra working funds.
The federal Liberals budgeted $30 billion over 5 years to part within the child-care program, with a goal to create hundreds of areas with a $10-a-day payment by 2026.
Every province and territory signed an settlement with Ottawa to run this system in change for federal money to assist pay for it.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says it’s a “big sum of money” and Ottawa stays dedicated to creating baby care work.
However Freeland didn’t counsel that that dedication contains placing much more cash on the desk.
