The Taber police and RCMP helped round up about 20 ostriches that escaped their enclosure in the town of Taber on Thursday morning.
In a post on Facebook, the Taber Police Service said the birds had made their way out of town and were “creating traffic hazards”.
Police officers and RCMP members were able to restrain most of the ostriches so that the owner could bring them home safely.
Taber-Vauxhall RCMP began fielding calls about ostriches on the road near Highway 36 and Township Road 94 just before 8 a.m.

About 20 birds were loose, RCMP said. One ostrich was hit on the road and killed.
“Over the past several hours, RCMP have been supporting the farmer in locating and capturing the loose birds,” RCMP said in a news release.
At one point, the owner was seen driving into an RCMP vehicle and grabbing one of the ostriches, RCMP said.
By 12:30 all but a few of the birds had been caught. Officers continue to assist the owner in locating the remaining ostriches.
