The Calgary Police Service stated it’s working with metropolis bylaw officers after a police officer shot a canine on Tuesday.
In accordance with Sgt. Jeff Dyke, CPS officers responded to studies of a “suspicious automobile” allegedly parked on city-owned property. Dyke stated when officers arrived on the space, close to fiftieth Avenue and First Avenue Southwest, a canine exited a trailer and proceeded to assault an officer. The officer responded by taking pictures the canine, which died on scene.
Dyke stated the officer suffered accidents from a canine chew on his hand and was transported to hospital. Dyke stated two persons are in custody in relation to the incident, together with the proprietor of the trailer. The incident continues to be underneath investigation.
A spokesperson for the Alberta Critical Incident Response Workforce (ASIRT) stated the provincial police watchdog has not been directed to analyze the incident.
