Bruce Covernton, a former offensive lineman who received two Gray Cups with the Calgary Stampeders, died Tuesday. He was 57.
The Stampeders confirmed Covernton’s loss of life however the trigger wasn’t divulged.
Calgary chosen Covernton first general within the 1992 CFL draft out of Weber State.
“He was an important teammate, an important buddy and, extra importantly, he had an enormous coronary heart for folks in want. He will likely be missed by many. We provide our deepest condolences to his household and pals.”

The native of Morris, Man., spent seven seasons with the Stampeders, beginning as a rookie and serving to the franchise win Gray Cups in 1992 and ’98.
He was the West Division’s high rookie in 1992. Twice the six-foot-five, 292-pound Covernton was a West Division all-star (1993-94) and earned CFL honours in 1993.
Covernton remained in Calgary after his enjoying days and was a member of the Stampeder Alumni Affiliation.
