The Federal Courtroom is ordering Ottawa to make modifications to a self-government deal it struck with the Métis Nation of Alberta.
The courtroom says the deal too broadly defines who it applies to and was made with out consulting two different Métis teams within the province.
The choice strikes down offending parts of the settlement and orders the federal authorities to return and seek the advice of with the Fort McKay Métis Nation and the Métis Settlements Basic Council.
Jason Madden, lawyer for the Métis Nation of Alberta, says the general deal stays in place.
It brings the group underneath federal laws that offers Indigenous governments management over household and little one welfare and permits it management over membership.
Lawyer Jeff Langlois, who represents Fort McKay, says the choice permits his consumer to pursue its personal path to self-government exterior the management of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
He says his consumer plans to hunt that recognition in talks the courtroom has ordered Ottawa to open.
