Starting Thursday, previously unmarked photo radar cars and trucks will be adorned with high-visibility stickers with the tagline “drive safe.”

The change is part of the provincial government’s new amendments to its automated enforcement guidelines, according to Calgary police. The changes are intended to ensure the use of photo radar is strictly for traffic safety and provide transparency for Albertans.

The adjustments to the guidelines include new location selection criteria, vehicle marking rules and enhanced data collection requirements, Calgary police said in a statement to Postmedia.

“A key element to the success of any enforcement practice, including the use of photo radar technology, is public awareness and transparency,” CPS said online.
