Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a person died in hospital after struggling accidents whereas in police custody in Purple Deer.
In a Monday launch, the Purple Deer RCMP say officers had been known as to a house on 50 Avenue on March 25 after getting studies of a person “performing erratically” and working on the roadway.
Responding officers positioned the person and took him into custody.
RCMP say the person seemed to be in medical misery whereas he was being held at their Purple Deer detachment. EMS had been known as in and when paramedics arrived the person turned unresponsive, based on police.
“Life-saving measures and CPR had been initiated and the male was transported to the Purple Deer Regional Hospital the place he was being monitored within the ICU,” reads the police launch.
Police say they had been made conscious that the person had died from his accidents in hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The RCMP has been directed to research below the oversight of the Alberta Critical Incident Staff (ASIRT). The RCMP say they’re totally cooperating with the assessment course of.
“Occasions like this are troublesome for everybody concerned, nevertheless the RCMP believes in accountability and transparency and can present full transparency to ASIRT,” reads the discharge.
ASIRT investigates any incidents leading to critical harm or demise to an individual within the presence of officers.
