A 25-year-old man from Calgary was arrested for trafficking drugs across the border at Coutts, Alta.
The Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) – a joint force operation between the RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency and Calgary Police Service – seized 53 kilograms of cocaine from a commercial transport truck following a secondary investigation on November 21.
“The drugs, which have a street value of approximately $5.3 million, were concealed in a shipment of produce and have been referred to IBET for further investigation,” Alberta RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

Jagroop Singh, the truck driver, was charged with importation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in provincial court in Lethbridge on Tuesday.
“The safety and security of Canadians is our government’s top priority,” said CBSA Regional Director General Brad Wozny.
“By stopping illegal drugs at the border, we keep our communities safe. This seizure is another great example of the continued collaboration between the CBSA, the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service to secure our borders.”
